Memphis NCAA tournament hopes possibly slashed after loss to Houston

Memphis Versus Houston AAC Semifinal Round Recap

Final Score: Memphis-74-Houston-76

Location: Dickies Arena, Fort Worth, Texas

The Memphis Tigers’ aspirations of an NCAA tournament bid could be gone after the team’s recent defeat versus the Houston Cougars. Similar to the previous contest, which occurred last week, the game was intense for its entirety.

The rematch in the AAC tournament was no different as the game featured numerous league changes throughout the contest. However, the Tigers could not make the important shots when it mattered the most.

The Houston Cougars now advance to the AAC tournament’s final round to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats. Boogie Ellis led the Tigers with 27 points in tonight’s contest. Forward DeAndre Williams stepped in with 16 points. In the free-throw department, Memphis continued to struggle by only making 15 of 27 attempts at the line.

Turnovers were a problem as well; the Tigers lost control of the basketball on 14 occasions. With the loss to Houston, the Tigers NCAA tournament fate now resides in the hands of the selection committee. The fact that Memphis played Houston down to the wire on two separate occasions could be enough to allow them to advance into this year’s NCAA tournament.
