Four rookie sleeper wide receivers to look out for in 2021

Published on

Once again, it was another stacked class regarding the wide receiver position in this year’s NFL Draft. The position had five players taken in the first round, and three out of the five were selected in picks one through ten. If you are participating in fantasy football this season and you have an opportunity to choose guys such as Ja’Marr Chase or DeVonta Smith, then go ahead and decide to do so. However, if you could not select either of those players listed, all hope is not lost.

There still will be opportunities to select wide receivers that will contribute to your fantasy team in some level of compacity. Strike 7 Sports lists four rookie wide receivers that a fantasy owner should consider when presented the opportunity. All receivers listed were taken in the second to later rounds of the draft.

4. Elijah Moore: New York Jets

Elijah Moore was the first player chosen in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Moore is going to a franchise that has a quarterback with tremendous upside in Zach Wilson. Wilson is projected to be the opening day starter for the 2021 season. Moore’s ability to make defenders miss — plus his top-end speed — make him a threat after the catch.

The Jets may not win many games this year. Still, if Moore and Wilson establish themselves as an up-and-coming quarterback/receiver duo, the second-round selection out of Mississippi could be a steal for fantasy owners.

3. Amari Rodgers: Green Bay Packers

With everything going on with the Aaron Rodgers situation in Green Bay, Amari Rodgers should still be considered a fantasy sleeper for the wide receiver position among rookies. Rodgers can contribute to the Packers’ offense in so many ways.

He has the type of intangibles that can pay enormous dividends for the Green Bay offense. During his time at Clemson, Rodgers served in kick/punt returner capacities, wide receiver, and even caught passes coming out of the backfield as a running back.

Expect the Packers to insert Rodgers in the same type of roles that he once had at Clemson. If the reports are coming out of Green Bay stating that Jordan Love is trending upward as an NFL passer is accurate, Rodgers could be another solid grab for your fantasy roster.

2. Rondale Moore: Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals decided to add A.J. Green to their already dangerous receiver group. During the draft, they added another element to the position by selecting Rondale Moore out of Purdue University in the second round.

Moore is a wide receiver that is built in a role similar to Amari Rodgers. Listed at 5’7, 181 pounds, Moore is not the biggest among other wide receivers selected in this year’s draft. However, his skill set makes up for what he lacks in size.

It has only been two seasons, but Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has demonstrated that he is going to be a force in the NFL for years to come. If Arizona utilizes Moore effectively, he can become a key contributor within the Cardinals’ offense.

1. Terrace Marshall: Carolina Panthers

If you get an opportunity to select Terrace Marshall in your fantasy draft, then please do it without hesitation. The guy is that good. Marshall was picked in the second round of the draft. But he has all of the intangibles of a first-round selection. Marshall will be reunited with his passing game coordinator at LSU in Joe Brady. Brady was the architect of the historic LSU Tigers offense that won a national title in 2019.

Marshall’s upside could potentially allow him to become the number one option in the passing game. But remember that this offense features two wide receivers that went over 1,000 yards last season in D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson. With Marshall added to the fold, his upside for fantasy teams could be through the roof.
