Will Kyrie’s vaccination status cost the Nets a championship?

Published on

The NBA season is about to start, and most players have decided to get vaccinated. However, few have decided they do not want to get vaccinated or decided to do more “research.”

The Brooklyn Nets have only one goal and expectation this season. Make it to the NBA Finals and win the title. Anything but that result assuming everybody is healthy is a failure. Everybody on the Nets has gotten the vaccine except for star guard Kyrie Irving.

Brooklyn Nets Head Coach Steve Nash gave a frustrated response about the Kyrie Irving situation.

“No, this is our home, this is where we’re going to practice, and we have almost a whole group. So that’s a positive, and we’re just working at getting better every day and focusing on the things we can control,” explained Nash.

The Nets are making the right decision doing what is best for them. They should not make plans to accommodate what Irving wants to do.

Kyrie Irving is just a different person, and he has the right to do what he wants, but it is not a good look when everybody on the team has gotten the vaccine, and you are refusing to do it without a really good reason. He is also risking losing a lot of money because of this strong stance.

Brooklyn Nets star player Kevin Durant had some very intriguing about Irving.

“No, I don’t go out giving advice. This is his decision; that’s his choice. We all respected it. This is way bigger than hoops. So I don’t feel comfortable talking to him about stuff like this. But I’m just here to support and come in here and do my job as one of the leaders on the team, and when things get figured out, I’ve got the trust, and I hope that it’ll get figured out. I am personally, yeah, because I want him to be part of this group. He’s a special player and person, and we want him to be part of this group. But a lot of stuff’s out of our control. We’ll let him figure that out for himself. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to say I don’t want him on the team. He’s a huge part of what we do,” said Durant.

Kevin Durant is a good teammate, so he would never tell Irving what to do or call him out in the media, but he wants to win a title, so it is doubtful he is not trying to convince Irving to do what he can so this team can win a title behind the scenes.

There is still time for Irving to change his mind. The NBA season does not start until October 19. Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins had the same stance until recently he decided to change his mind and get the vaccine.

The Nets have plenty of talent to have still a chance to win the title. Also, they do have the buyout market and trade exceptions to try to add to their roster. However, if they cannot have the services of Irving, it will be much harder to win the title.
