Broncos to release safety Justin Simmons

A year later, the roster purge was in effect in Sean Payton’s regime. On Monday, it was reported that the team is projected to release quarterback Russell Wilson after only playing two seasons with the organization. Along with the release of Wilson, the team will take on the former third-round pick’s massive $85 million cap hit. On Thursday, another integral football member will also be departing. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that they will release safety Justin Simmons.

Simmons played eight seasons with the Broncos and was named second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press in the past five seasons. He also appeared in two Pro Bowls during his time in Denver. The former third-round selection out of Boston College was set to count against $18.25 million against the team’s salary cap but will now become an unrestricted free agent.
