Drew Brees top five performances

Today, Strike 7 Sports goes down memory lane to rank quarterback Drew Brees’ top five performances with the New Orleans Saints. The future Hall of Famer has put on some memorable performances, whether it be in primetime or a regular Sunday afternoon matchup. Flip the pages to see where we begin on the list.

1. Super Bowl XLIV

Stats: 32 of 39 passes completed for 288 yards and two touchdowns

Brees’ performance in Super Bowl XLIV is what put him and the entire franchise on the map. The Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts led by another future Hall of Famer in Peyton Manning. Brees was named the game’s Most Valuable Player when he tied a Super Bowl record when he completed 32 of 39 passes for 288 yards and two touchdown passes.

2. Saints vs. Chargers: October 7, 2012

Stats: 29 of 45 passes completed for 370 yards and four touchdowns

The game was on a Sunday night, and Brees was facing his former team in the Los Angeles Chargers. But there was also something else at stake, and that was a record that was held for almost 52 years. Hall of Fame quarterback Johnny Unitas had thrown touchdown passes in 47 consecutive games.

In the game against the Chargers, Brees would break that record by throwing a touchdown pass in the 48th consecutive football games. The Saints would go on the defeat the Chargers 31-24 in front of a packed crowd at the Mercedes Benz Superdome.

3. Patriots vs. Saints: November 30, 2009

Stats: 18 of 23 passes completed for 371 yards and five touchdowns

The image above was the puzzling look of Patriots Head Coach and former quarterback Tom Brady when they faced the red-hot Saints during the 2009 season. On that night, the Saints were 10-0 but still had their doubters around the league.

However, after Drew Brees and Sean Payton launched an all-out assault on the Patriots’ defense, the rest of the entire league had the Saints’ attention. Brees would finish the night with 371 yards passes and five touchdown passes.

4. Cowboys vs. Saints: November 10, 2013

Stats: 34 of 41 passes completed for 392 yards and four touchdown passes

Once again, on Sunday Night Football, Drew Brees and the Saints had another outstanding performance. The offense would set an NFL record by converting 40 first downs against the Dallas Cowboys. Brees completed 34 of 41 passes for 392 yards and four touchdowns scored; the Saints would defeat the Cowboys 49-17.

5. Giants vs. Saints: November 1, 2015

Stats: 39 of 50 passes completed for 505 yards and seven touchdown passes

One of the bright spots of the 7-9 years with Drew Brees under center for the Saints was their 2015 matchup against the New York Giants. Brees tied an NFL record by throwing seven touchdown passes against a Giants team that attempted to counter with every strike that the Saints had in their arsenal. The Saints would survive the shootout with a 52-49 victory. These are Drew Brees’ top five performances with the New Orleans Saints.
