Former Memphis guard Keonte Kennedy transfers to CAL for upcoming season

Published on

Former Memphis Tigers guard Keonte Kennedy has announced that he will transfer to the University of California, Berkeley (CAL) for the upcoming college basketball season. College Basketball Hoops Today reporter Jon Rothstein was the first to break the news.  Kennedy spent the 2022-2023 season with Memphis, where he averaged 9.2 points per game, before entering the transfer portal a few weeks after the season ended.

Kennedy, who is 6-5, was highly touted coming out of high school and spent his freshman season at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where he averaged 14.1 points per game. He transferred to Memphis for the 2022-2023 season but has decided to move on to CAL for the upcoming season.

The Bears, who are entering their first season under head coach Mark Madsen, will benefit from Kennedy’s scoring ability and experience playing at the college level. Kennedy will likely be a key piece for the Bears as they look to compete in the highly competitive Pac-12 conference.

Meanwhile, Memphis is going through significant roster turnover, losing several key players such as Kendric Davis, DeAndre Williams, Jahmar Young Young, Elijah McCadden, Johnathan Lawson, and Kaodirichi-Akobundu Ehiogu. It is still unknown if center Malcolm Dandridge will return to the program, making Kennedy’s departure another significant loss for the Tigers.

Kennedy’s move to CAL represents a new opportunity for the young guard, and he will look to build upon his solid performances from his time at UTEP and Memphis. The Bears are hopeful that he will be able to make an immediate impact for the team in the upcoming season.
