Going into the 2021 season, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have an improved offensive line. Kansas City recently signed Joe Thuney, and Pro Bowl offensive lineman Kyle Long returned from a one-year retirement to join the team.
But the Chiefs did not stop with the additions of Thuney and Long. On Friday, Kansas City acquired Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle, Orlando Brown. The story was reported first by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
In return for Brown’s services, the Ravens received the Chiefs first-round selection of the 2021 draft (No. 31 overall), a third-rounder (94), fourth-round pick (136), and a 2022 fifth-round selection in exchange for Brown and a 2021 second-round pick (No. 58) and a 2022 sixth-round pick.
The entire offseason for the Chiefs has been about improving their offensive line. They released two starting guards in Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz due to numerous injuries and salary cap issues.
It was evident that the Chiefs lacked an excellent offensive line to protect Patrick Mahomes at Super Bowl LIV. The matchup versus Tampa Bay the second time around was the most pressure that Mahomes had been under as the Chiefs starting quarterback. The Ravens receive a plethora of draft picks that can be used to build depth at certain positions, such as wide receiver and tight end.
