The New Orleans Saints football team was founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, Chuck Muncie, and Jim Mora Sr. in 1967 as part of the AFL. The NFL would later merge with the AFL in 1970. The Saints joined the NFL as a result of the merger, after winning three consecutive Division Championships (1967-1969) over their first three years of existence. Today, Saints fans worldwide support the New Orleans home team, with their most successful season in 2009 culminating in a Super Bowl championship win.
