According to NFL Network report Tom Pelissero, the Green Bay Packers have decided to move on from defensive coordinator Joe Barry. The Packers’ defensive outing against the Dallas Cowboys in the wild card was not enough to retain Barry’s services going forward. During the regular season, Barry’s unit was ranked 23rd in yards allowed, 28th in opponent third down conversion, and 28th against the rush.
The move to not retain Barry should not come as a surprise to Packer fans. Reports have surfaced over the past few weeks that Barry could be replaced once the season ends.
The team showed significant growth with Jordan Love under center, but on defense, the group hasn’t entirely lived up to its potential despite the personnel available. Barry has been a Green Bay Packers coaching staff member since 2021. He had prior stops as a defensive coordinator with teams such as the Washington Commanders and the Detroit Lions.
