Teams that must be in the QB market heading into 2024

Thirteen weeks of the 2023 NFL regular season have passed, and we have a clear indication of who the league’s best teams are by now. The road to Super Bowl LVIII will likely run through cities such as San Francisco, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Miami. We also know which teams need to prioritize finding a new quarterback going into the 2024 campaign. Today’s post analyzes eight teams that must address their quarterback room for the 2024 season. The list even includes clubs that are currently alive for playoff berths as well.

New York Jets: Yes, I understand the team has Aaron Rodgers for at least the 2024 campaign, but what about the future at the position beyond the future Hall of Famer? Zach Wilson has shown that he is not progressing as an NFL quarterback since being selected in 2021. It’s time for the organization to be more proactive than reactive when addressing its future. Given the upcoming draft’s pool of talented quarterbacks, the Jets will have the opportunity to groom a prospect who can learn the intricacies of running a pro-style offense while having Rodgers in the building.

Atlanta Falcons: As of Week 13, the Atlanta Falcons have the inside track to winning the NFC South this season. With how things are playing out with the Saints, it may take only three games to secure their first division title since 2016. However, should the team retain Desmond Ridder as their starting QB heading into 2024? If we are being honest, the Falcons are an upgrade at quarterback and are away from dominating the division for the next decade.

New Orleans Saints: As it stands right now, the New Orleans Saints QB room is Derek Carr, Jameis Winston, Taysom Hill, and rookie Jake Haener. For whatever reason, Carr has struggled to understand an offense that prior quarterbacks, such as Teddy Bridgewater, performed so well in during his five starts in 2019. Based on how inept the Saints have looked with Carr under center, it would behoove them to consider another long-term option at the position.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Here’s what we know about the Buccaneers in the post-Tom Brady era. Quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask are not cut out to be the long-term starter. Tampa is slotted at no.10 in the current order of the NFL Draft.

Las Vegas Raiders: Jimmy Garoppolo is not as productive as he was under the guidance of 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. The head coach who was involved in the signing of Garoppolo, Josh McDaniel, was fired by the Raiders. With Garoppolo on the bench and a new head coach on the horizon, it’s best that the Raiders cut ties with the veteran QB and draft a quarterback.

New England Patriots: The Mac Jones era in New England needs to end, regardless of who the head coach will be next season. The former Alabama QB has had a bad experience since being handed the reigns in 2021. Issues ranging from having a defensive coordinator become an offensive play caller to alleged tension between Jones and Bill Belichick signifies a change of scenery for everyone involved.

Chicago Bears: With Caleb Williams being available with the first selection, it will be difficult for the Chicago Bears to pass on the former USC QB. The current starter, Justin Fields, is talented and has potential, but he needs to showcase his abilities with another team.

Minnesota Vikings: After the three-interception outing in Week 12, the Joshua Dobbs experience seems to be over in Minnesota. Even if they decide to bring back Kirk Cousins on a one-year deal, the team needs a younger option at QB.
