The closer we get to the 2023 NFL Draft, the more news we will hear about potential trades, especially trades that revolve around the quarterback position. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the San Francisco 49ers have received phone calls from other teams inquiring about the possibility of trading for Trey Lance, their former first-round pick.
While no trade is imminent, and the #49ers would almost certainly want to make sure Brock Purdy’s rehab continues to go as smoothly as it’s been going, the interest from other teams in Lance has been there. https://t.co/H29UL0iecw

It is important to note that the 49ers are not actively shopping Lance but are instead fielding calls from other teams who may be interested in acquiring him. The reason for this interest could be that Brock Purdy is considered the future starter for the 49ers, and franchises may see an opportunity to develop a promising young quarterback who may be available.
It is also worth noting that the 49ers invested heavily in Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft, trading two future first-round picks and a compensatory third-round pick to move up and select him at No. 3 overall. However, Lance’s rookie season was cut short due to an ankle injury in Week 2, and he was replaced by two different quarterbacks who both had success leading the team. This may have led the 49ers to reconsider their long-term plans at quarterback and could explain why other teams are inquiring about Lance’s availability.
Finally, the information provided also notes that Brock Purdy is likely the quarterback of the future for the 49ers. However, it is still unclear when he will be ready to take over as the starter due to a UCL tear suffered in the NFC championship game against eventual Super Bowl representative the Philadelphia Eagles. The former Iowa State Cyclone went undefeated as the Niners starting QB during the regular season. This injury could delay his development and complicate the 49ers’ quarterback situation.

It’s not complicated.
It’s Purdy. Regardless of injury. Darnold is better than Lance. Geez, Jimmy G was better than Lance.
Trading up and drafting Lance has no bearing on who’s better. It was obviously a mistake.
