Now that the Saints have Derek Carr as their new starting quarterback, the discussion of where the team need upgrades has begun. In a recent article by CBS Sports titled “NFL free agency matchmaker for each NFC team,” contributor Jared Dubin listed Raiders impending free agent WR Mack Hollins as an ideal signing for the Saints once free agency kicks off on March 15.
“New Orleans just inked a long-term pact with Derek Carr, who seemed to like throwing to Hollins last season in Las Vegas. With Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry both likely leaving in free agency and not much in the way of quality pass-catcher depth beyond Chris Olave, the Saints could use another weapon. Hollins has good size (6-4, 220) and proved to be a capable deep threat last year. Reunite him with Carr and try to recapture some of what they found in 2022.”
Hollins capped off the 2022 campaign with 57 receptions, 690 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. Based on those numbers it shouldn’t cause that much to sign him. Hollins would be a much needed insurance policy if the team decides to bring back WR Michael Thomas. They can also utilize the route of the draft as well. New Orleans has a solid track record of finding quality receivers in the mid to late rounds of the draft. We will find out much more of what New Orleans has endured once free agency kicks off next week. The Saints have a tendency of being active during the second week of free agency.
