The Aaron Rodgers era is ending in Green Bay. The latest story from ESPN NFL Insider Dianna Russini is that there’s “optimism in the Jets’ organization that they are on the brink of landing the future Hall of Fame QB.” Critical front office members flew out to an area in California where Rodgers has a home to meet with the star quarterback.
Team owner Woody Johnson decided to join the rest of the Jets as they attempted to make their pitch to Rodgers. Talks have gone exceptionally well based on the information released by Russini. Rodgers is still under contract with Green Bay, so a trade would have to occur if an agreement were made between him and the Jets. The Jets currently have the no.13 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The first-round selection could be included in the trade package, but reports suggest the Packers will not ask for a significant compensation haul to move off the future Hall of Fame QB.
According to ESPN, Jets beat reporter Rich Cimini predicted that the Jets could send the Packers their second-round pick in 2023 and a third-round choice in 2024 as part of the compensation package for Rodgers. The notion for only giving up a second and third-round selection for Rodgers is due to his age and that his situation can change on a year-to-year basis. If New York keeps their first-round choice and adds Rodgers to the fold, they will have an opportunity to address critical needs in the upcoming draft at pick no.13.
Green Bay will likely allow Jordan Love to play the entire season to show that he’s a quarterback that they can continue their winning ways around. Love has seen little action as a starter during his time with Green Bay. If he doesn’t pan out, the Packers will look towards the 2024 NFL Draft to find their next great QB under center. Signal-callers projected to come out in 2024 is Caleb Williams of USC and North Carolina’s Drake Maye.
In the wake of an extensive in-person meeting between Aaron Rodgers & New York Jets brass, including owner Woody Johnson, there’s optimism in the Jets’ organization that they are on the brink of landing the future Hall of Fame QB, sources close to the situation tell ESPN.
