NFL Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em for Week 6: Running Backs

Start’Em

Rhamondre Stevenson

With teammate Damian Harris out for multiple games because of a hamstring injury, Stevenson’s workload will increase. That’s also a huge plus for fantasy owners. In Week 5 against the Lions, Stevenson stepped in and rushed for 161 yards, along with two catches for 14 yards on 14 targets. New England will face a Cleveland Browns team that has surrendered the fourth-most fantasy PPG to RBs (28.7).

Devin Singletary

Since the Carolina Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule, rumors have surfaced about the potential fire sale of the team’s roster. At the top of the list was running back Christian McCaffrey. Reports have stated that the Bills have talked with Carolina about acquiring the All-Pro tailback. That doesn’t bode well for Bills tailback Devin Singeltary. But until the trade happens, continue to add Singletary into the fold on your fantasy team. He is one of the Bills’ most reliable weapons in passing and running situations. Buffalo heads down to Arrowhead again for another huge game against the Kansas City Chiefs. From a fantasy viewpoint, you need to have Singletary in your lineup for this Sunday’s action. Kansas City’s defense has allowed the third-most PPG (29.6) to running backs this season. The Chiefs have also allowed the most targets, receptions, and receiving yards to tailbacks.

Jeff Wilson

49ers running back Jeff Wilson has seen a significant increase in usage since fellow teammate Elijah Mitchell was added to the IR after Week 1. So far, he has not disappointed, especially for fantasy owners. Wilson has averaged 17.8 touches and 103.8 total yards, with at least 74 rushing yards in every contest. In Week 6, Wilson and the Niners face a Falcons squad that is third-worst in rushing success rate and rush EPA. Atlanta has also surrendered the 13th-most fantasy points per game to tailbacks this season.

Sit’Em

Najee Harris

So far, it has been a tough start to the season for Harris. The former Alabama running back has had fewer big runs this season, and his number of carries that go for 10-plus yards is down two percent. Harris is also not involved in passing game usage as last year. He only has 15 targets in five games this season. That’s mainly due to the Steelers having a healthy receiving core. Besides those issues, this Sunday against the Bucs is not the game to have Harris in your starting lineup. The Buccaneers allow the fewest fantasy PPG to the position at just 14.46.

Ezekiel Elliot

It is getting harder and harder to justify why Ezekiel Elliot is still a premier running back went it comes to playing fantasy football. Last week against the Rams, Elliot carried the ball for 22 times, but only netted 78 rushing yards. Elliot is only averaging 3.6 yards per carry in five games this season. While the Philadelphia Eagles defense is a middle of the pack unit when it comes to defending the run, they are a legitimate group overall. While I expect the game to be close throughout its entirety, the Cowboys will not turn to Elliot if they are down by a significant margin. Those targets that Elliot would usually get in the passing game are now going to fellow tailback Tony Pollard.
